The Income Tax in the Villages of Amelia, Newtonsville and Smithfield Remains In Effect Until Further Notice

Posted On: Monday, December 30, 2019

UPDATE 4/27/22  - RITA no longer collects income tax for the Villages of Newtonsville and Smithfield.

At the November 5, 2019 election, residents of the Villages of Amelia, Newtonsville and Smithfield voted to dissolve their Villages in accordance with Sections 703.20 and 703.21 of the Ohio Revised Code.  The Villages will eventually become part of neighboring townships.  During the transition periods, being overseen by the Ohio Auditor of State’s Office, the income tax in each of the Villages remains in effect and is to continue to be paid and collected.  RITA will continue to administer and collect the Villages’ income taxes during the time the taxes remain in effect.  The ending date of the income tax for each of the Villages will be determined at a later date and notice will be provided to taxpayers and employers at that time.
